If you live in an apartment or a small home that has a small master bath then you will be limited to the type of shower design you are able to use. With the limited amount of space you will have a hard time trying to add a walk in shower without eating up much of the space you have left.
The trick with small bathrooms is to be creative and find ways in which you can create a great looking bathroom without spending thousands of dollars and without cramping your space. One of the first options you have is to remove the existing bathtub. The bathtub is the biggest feature in any bathroom and half the time we won’t even use it.
The minute you remove it you will see how much extra space you have. This gives you one of two options. The first option is to build a large, luxurious bathroom that will eat up the space. The second is to build a moderate sized stand up shower design that is luxurious – but will give you more space for walking or storage.
With this option you will be able to use a doorless shower design with any faucet designs and showerheads that will help to provide the best water pressure. As nice as it would be to have a door it would be hard to find enough clearance for it. The only downside to removing the bathtub to free up space is that it will devalue the home. If this is a problem try to use the bathtub in the spare bathroom.
One of the more unique methods that you can use to give yourself a nice stand up shower without all of the hassle is to build one in a corner of your bedroom. This is the most expensive option and is should only be considered if you have no other options. It will require that you install cement and stone walls and flooring along with a base and drain. For the shower walls you can use glass or plexiglass to keep water from getting into the room during use.
The last option is to install a prefabricated or shower insert design. This freestanding unit easily installs into the corner of the bathroom. These will cost as low as $600 and you can install it on your own. It is best to get the kind that does not have a door but will use a shower curtain. The only downside to these is that they are the size of a small closet and only have one small ledge to hold your toiletries.
